“You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows”
Bob Dylan
March is one of my favorite times of the year as it symbolizes a time of transformation and growth. In this month’s Monday Mix, I’m excited to announce a very special project that I’ll be working on over the next several months. Also, I have a new format for my monthly playlists. See the “Sounds” section below for details.
👤 CHANGIN’
Over the past few decades, society has advanced at a rate faster than ever before. Technology has played a large part in this by creating amazing resources that put useful information right at our fingertips.
In doing so, however, people have become less reliant on “self” and increasingly dependent on “device.” This has caused a shift in the way humans behave and interact with one another; causing a slow deterioration of spatial awareness. Every day I notice people so engaged with their devices that they completely miss what’s going on right in front of them and more importantly how people around them are affected by their actions/in-actions.
But in this situation, no one is to blame. Technology as we know it is new for human-kind and no one has handed us a blueprint for how to use our devices while staying connected to the world around us.
In a light-hearted attempt to bring awareness to this issue, I’ve decided to create a coffee table book filled with fun poems, illustrations, and real-life experiences that drive me crazy. I will be releasing this book in November 2020 and excited to share the process with you guys!
The Times They Are a-Changin: How Not to be Oblivious in the 21st Century (working title) will cover a wide range of situations. Here’s a sneak peek at a few of them:
• Speakerphone in public places
• Texting on the stairs
• When to record at concerts/shows
• Are your headphones too loud?
• Sidewalk Etiquette
If you have any situations that grind your gears please share them with me for a chance to make it into the book.
🎨 DESIGN SHOWCASE
Here’s a look at a logo I recently designed for Tara Klein, a real estate agent in the Manhattan Beach area. It was important for her to maintain a professional look and feel but still give off some character. We achieved this by combining and elegant serifed typeface with a touch of pink in the key symbol.
🎷 SOUNDS
I’m excited to announce the release of my 4th annual Heating Up playlist: Heating Up 20. This mix of progressive house music is perfect for any occasion but I find it most enjoyable during the daytime with the sun out. This month I’ve created a page on my website that houses all the playlists from previous mixes all in one place. The most recent playlist will always be first. Enjoy!
❤️ THAT’S A WRAP
If you’ve enjoyed reading the Monday Mix, it would mean a lot if you shared it with a friend or two. You can do so by sending them to this link to sign up. I try to make it one of the best emails you get each month, so growing this list can help me reach more people. If you are new to the Mix and want to see some past editions you can view all posts archives here.
