Staying Locked In 🧠 (Monday Mix, April 2020)

“Train your mind to see the good in every situation”

Unknown

A lot has happened since we last connected a month ago. The world as we know it has been put on pause as we collectively try to tackle a worldwide pandemic. It’s been a big change of pace for all of us spending our days in the house away from our friends and family. Though this a strange and unfamiliar time, it is important we find the silver lining and allow ourselves to grow from this.

🔒 LOCKED IN

As much as I miss being out in the world, there is something therapeutic about us all being home together. We are no longer competing in the rat race of life but instead, are all unified with one common goal – to beat this virus and come out of this pandemic stronger than before. There has never been a time in history where the entire world is focused on one issue, until now. With the collective resources of the globe coming together, it is only a matter of time until we bounce back. In the meantime, it’s critical not to lose track of the current moment and utilize this time as an opportunity to evolve.

The extra time at home undoubtedly leads to more time in front of our screens. So why not use that time to learn something new about yourself instead of binging Netflix docuseries (sorry Tiger King). I have put together a list of resources that are vital to my personal growth during this lockdown.

1. Meditation
Here are three platforms that offer unique approaches to meditation. The best thing to do is to test and find what works for you.

a. Headspace – Meditate at your own pace with guided or un-guided mindful meditations.
b. Unplug – Craving more of an in-person approach? Unplug offers a variety of online virtual meditations.
c. Wim Hof Method – This combination of breathwork and cold showers has been proven to increase immunity to viruses similar to covid-19. If you’d like to learn more I suggest starting with this interview.

2. Masterclass
This has been a fun gift to myself and an alternative to watching TV. Some of my favorite classes so far have been Gabriela Camara teaches Mexican Cooking and Judd Apatow teaches Comedy. The awesome thing is that there are so many classes on a diverse range of topics.

3. Fitness
Staying motivated to workout in the confines of my house has been a little bit of a struggle. I am grateful however for the Shred app which has released a category on the app specifically for home workouts that leave me feeling tired and sore in the best possible way.

4. Entertainment
There is something beautiful about the ability of humans to adapt. In lieu of all concerts and museums closing many artists are providing online concerts while some museums are offering virtual tours.

5. Self Discovery
I spent some time last week getting to know myself better by creating a top 10 list. All you have to do is write your top 10:

  • Movies
  • Songs
  • Books
  • Places visited
  • Places you want to visit
  • Restaurant dishes
  • Artists
  • Quotes

🎨 DESIGN SHOWCASE

A friend of mine approached me a couple of weeks ago with the brilliant idea of starting a quarantine themed apparel brand called Quarantine N’ Chill. I was able to help build and design the website which I am proud to say has raised over $6,000 to date. All proceeds go to laid-off workers, student meals, and medical supplies so take a look around and see which hoodie is for you!

🎷 SOUNDS

This month’s mix is a little different than usual. I came across a 30-day challenge that had me pick a song each day based on a specific prompt. It was pretty fun to do and allowed me to think of songs that have had an impact on my life. I’ve attached the image below so you guys can play as well.
