“Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of your own mind.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Hi guys, and welcome to the first Monday of May. As always I’ve taken some time to outline some sources of inspiration from the last month. I hope that everyone is finding some peace (and new talents) during this strange time.
👤 INTEGRITY
Over the weekend I re-read Self-Reliance by Ralph Waldo Emerson. It’s been almost 200 years since the American philosopher and essayist put pen to paper, but the work remains incredibly relevant – especially now, during this pandemic.
Emerson was a pioneer of the Transcendentalism movement, believing that people and nature are inherently good, while society and its institutions have corrupted the purity of the individual. People are at their best when they are truly “self-reliant” and independent.
After about two months of home isolation, it’s become ever more clear to me that the source of all happiness comes from within. The institutions made to keep us safe and in good health are not as reliable as I once hoped, so we must create our own path to withstand the punches thrown our way.
“Nothing can bring you peace but yourself. Nothing can bring you peace but the triumph of principles.”
With so many sources of information in the modern world, it has become increasingly difficult to truly know oneself. We strive to meet society’s “norms” and to receive validity from our peers, all the while sacrificing our individual truths.
“Trust thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron string.”
As Americans gear up for the reopening of our country, it’s only a matter of time until we assimilate back into the inner weavings of society. It is here where we can quickly lose track of our true calling. We all know deep down inside what it is that will bring fulfillment and contentment to this life. The question is, are you willing to pursue it despite what others will think or say?
“These are the voices which we hear in solitude, but they grow faint and inaudible as we enter into the world.”
🎨 DESIGN SHOWCASE
One of the coolest things about being a designer is that you feel invested in the success of your clients. This is even more true when that client is your dad! Last month my team and I completed a full website refresh for Dr. Daniel Sadigh, PsyD, LMFT. The site was designed with the intention of bringing awareness to his psychotherapy and business counseling practice. I’m really thrilled with the way it turned out. Have a look and let me know your thoughts.
🎷 SOUNDS
The sounds of May come at you from Jody Wisternoff who released his first solo album (Nightwhisper) in nearly 8 years this past Friday. The soft, ambient sounds of the album are sure to take you on an emotional roller coaster. Enjoy!
